Our Light up a Life appeal

A special way to remember a loved one

As Christmas approaches, many of us find ourselves reflecting on those we love who are no longer with us. This can be a tender time of year, filled with both cherished memories and a sense of longing. At St Luke’s, our Light up a Life appeal offers a very special way to celebrate the life of your loved one and keep their memory shining bright.

Our Light up a Life service of remembrance was held at the Hospice on Sunday 30th November. However, you can still dedicate a light on our Christmas tree in memory if you would like to. It really is so moving to know that every light that shines on the tree throughout December is dedicated in memory of a loved one, many of whom we were privileged to care for at the Hospice.

Our Book of Memories containing the names of the loved ones you have remembered as part of Light up a Life is now available to view in the Chapel at the Hospice, where is remains throughout the year. If you would like to view the book in person please contact the Hospice on 01606 551246 to arrange a suitable time.

Your kind donation

Help us care for more people in the future

By dedicating a light, not only will you be remembering a loved one but also helping to raise vital funds for the Hospice.

Your kind donation will help us to reach out to more local people who need us in the future, providing expert care and support to enable families to enjoy precious time together.

Here are just some of the ways your donation will make a difference:

  • £22.60 will fund an hour of complementary therapy for patients and carers in Day Hospice
  • £31.04 pays for an hour of nursing care on our Inpatient Unit
  • £53.93 pays for a patient to spend a full day in Day Hospice
  • £149.04 covers the cost of a St Luke’s Nurse for a whole day

We are grateful to Birches Crematorium and Remembrance Park in Northwich who are once again supporting Light up a Life, thereby helping to ensure that as much money as possible can be raised for patient care.

Katherine Craig from Cuddington says our Light up a Life service helps her feel connected to her husband Mark, who sadly died at the Hospice in March 2023 aged just 42.

“It’s such a lovely, heartwarming experience,” she shares. “There are tears but there are also smiles as well, because everyone there has come together to remember happy times with their loved one. It’s not a remembrance of the end, but a remembrance of the life.

“What I love are the little touches at the service. We always write a message and hang it on the rope around the planters, and I leave my little candle there too, and it just feels like a good place to send that message off to Mark. It helps me to connect to him and I love that.”

Katherine, and their daughters Niamh (16) and Isla (13), continue to be supported by the Hospice’s Family Support Team. She added: “I don’t quite know where we’d be without St Luke’s. The support we’ve been given and the compassion and kindness has been second to none, as well as the kindness Mark received while he was at the Hospice. They did everything they possibly could to make him, and us feel, at home. We could have precious moments with him and it made the situation the best we could have wished for.”
