A special win for a special supporter

There couldn’t be a more deserving winner of our £2,500 Summer Raffle top prize than Vicky Walker from Hartford, whose unwavering support for St Luke’s has made her a familiar face across so many of our fundraisers.
Over the past year alone, Vicky has taken on a skydive, joined hundreds of supporters at our Midnight Walk, attended our floral and wreath-making workshops, and, alongside her family, proudly supports the Hospice through the St Luke’s Lottery.
Vicky’s connection to St Luke’s is deeply personal. After her mum received care at the Hospice in June 2025, she felt inspired to give something back.
“The doctors and nurses were absolutely amazing. So kind and supportive. Ever since they looked after my mum, I’ve wanted to give something back, so I try to attend all the different events because I know the money goes to such a worthy cause.”
When Vicky received the call to tell her she had won the £2,500 top prize, it came as a complete surprise.
“When I saw about the Summer Raffle, I thought I’d buy some tickets but I never thought I’d win so I completely forgot about it. So when Chantal (member of the Donor Care Team) rang me it was a bit of a shock. I thought she was joking!”
True to form, it didn’t take long for Vicky to find another way to support St Luke’s. Shortly after hearing the news, she paid a celebratory visit to our Hartford charity shop.
“I’d literally just took the call and I thought I’d go and have a mooch and spend some of my winnings. I always go into the Hartford shop whenever I can.
“St Luke’s is such a big part of my life now. Everything that they do is incredible. If you can just give a little bit back it makes a massive difference. They do so much, they’re unsung heroes in all of this because they just make it that little bit easier. The support to give to patients and families is just phenomenal.”
Stories like Vicky’s are a powerful reminder of the impact our supporters have on the care we provide.
