Lottery Month 2026 (May)
Throughout the month of May, we are celebrating our Lottery and the amazing impact it has on care.
The Hospice Lottery currently funds the care of one in every five patients at the site in Winsford. Now in it’s 32nd year, the Lottery has grown to become our largest single source of income and is vital to the future of the Hospice.
Hospice funding has been in the national news recently with calls for fairer and more sustainable funding from the government in response to growing financial pressures facing the sector. As a small local charity, St Luke’s Hospice receives just 14% of its funding from the government and relies on donations and fundraising, including the Lottery, to fund the vast majority of our care.
Nicola Mainwaring, Lottery Manager at St Luke’s Hospice, said: “St Luke’s Lottery isn’t just about the chance to win. It’s a way of supporting local hospice care, week after week, so that we can deliver our services 365 days a year.
“Every day, we see the difference our care makes to patients and their families. We also know that as demand for our services continues to rise, the financial pressures facing hospices like ours are growing too. That is why our Lottery matters more than ever.
“For many supporters, it is one of the easiest ways to give regularly, and for the Hospice it provides a steady and reliable source of income that helps us continue being here for local families when they need us most.”
Debbie Bennett from Moulton plays our Lottery as a thank you for the care her dad received in his final days. Last year she was delighted to receive a call telling her she’d won the £1,000 jackpot.
She shares: “I received a phone call just ahead of a Bank Holiday weekend from the St Luke’s Lottery Team to let me know that I had won a prize. I couldn’t believe it when I heard £1,000. A fabulous start to the weekend!
“I try to support St Luke’s in any way that I can. My dad spent the last two weeks of his life in the Hospice and the care that he received during that time was fabulous. They are an amazing team and everyone does that bit extra to help patients and families, for us, through our darkest time. I can’t thank St Luke’s enough and the Lottery is a small way I can make a difference.”
