Volunteers’ Week 2026 – Alison (Shop)

Meet Alison, one of our lovely shop volunteers that keeps things running smoothly at St Luke’s at 72!
Having volunteered for a year now, Alison has found purpose, friendship, and plenty of reasons to smile.
“I wanted to do something with my life – I wanted to help the hospice,” Alison shares. “It’s a nice shop and I love it here. I couldn’t think of doing anything better.”
For Alison, volunteering is about more than giving back, it’s about connection. “I get a lot of satisfaction out of helping others, and there’s a positive social side too. Every one of the ladies is amazing and very welcoming. I look forward to coming in every week.”
From regular socials and shared meals to an Elvis movie night with her fellow volunteers, it’s clear that the sense of community goes far beyond the shop floor.
And her message to anyone thinking of joining? “Go for it, it will change your life. The people you meet, whether staff, other volunteers or customers, create such a lovely atmosphere… you’ll love it!”
