Volunteers’ Week 2026 – Ian (Patient Driver)

Meet Ian, one of our dedicated patient drivers.
For the past year, Ian has been giving his time to support local people when they need it most. After the loss of his wife, Ian wanted to channel his time into something meaningful within the community.
“St Luke’s has such a strong reputation and relies on the generosity of the public, so I felt I could do my bit. Driving is something simple I can offer, it gets me out of the house, gives me purpose, and does a bit of good for those that need it.”
As a patient driver, Ian plays a vital role in helping people access our Day Hospice services. Reflecting on his experience, Ian shared:
“Doing this you realise you might have problems yourself, but when you see what some people are going through and dealing with, it puts it all into perspective and makes you feel so humble.”
